Welcome To Warning Glory

Hi, friends!

We're excited to announce our new music collaboration, Warning Glory. In this blog, I'll tell you a little about us and how we got started.

Earlier this year, my friend Chuck Lawton and I started talking about some songs I'd been writing, and the possibility of bringing them to life with his guitar, my bass, and our vocal harmonies. I'd heard and seen him perform with his band The Vitrolum Republic and knew the project would benefit from his talent as a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and singer.

Over the past several years, I'd been writing a set of tunes that bring together bluegrass, blues, and country influences in a form I've started calling “bluesgrass.” I'd had a blast performing a few of them with the band Pay the Devil and wanted to build all of them into an album with a unique sound.  A name for this project was needed, and a floral modegreen originating from my daughter came to mind.

As a new band, we're shaping our sound. Our first single, Welcome to our Country, is due to be released in the coming weeks (UPDATE: HERE IT IS). We're not expecting the rest of the tunes to have that same sensibility. We have many instruments to experiment with, and many collaborators to invite in, and we're making decisions song by song about what to do.

As we start to record and "try on" different sounds, we may land on what "bluesgrass" means to us, and we’re excited about exploring sounds influenced by different genres. Studio time lets us do that and see what we like, release a track and see what you, our audience, responds to, with a shorter feedback cycle than is possible between album releases.

So, welcome to our music — we’re so glad you’re here!
